Covid-19 Face Mask Guide: All You Need To Know
Wearing face masks is one of the primary ways to prevent novel coronavirus from spreading. It slows down the transmission of Covid-19 from one person to another.
Speaking of masks, there are different types available. From FFP2 face mask to cloth masks, you have many options available in the market.
Researches have shown that wearing face masks slows down the spreading of the virus. This is why you are advised to wear at least a cloth mask while moving out of the house.
Types Of Face Masks
At present, people are using three types of face masks for protection. This include:
- Surgical Masks
This is a type of personal protective equipment that fits easily over the mouth and nose. The most effective face mask for Covid-19 is FFP masks. Make sure you look for a reputable FFP2 mask manufacturer when buying an FFP2 mask. These masks are effective in shielding against large sneeze or cough droplets, sprays, or splashes. However, they are not effective against smaller droplets. According to researchers, wearing surgical masks is not always a good option.
- Respirators
These are seal-tested respirator masks. This includes an FFP2 face mask, N95, and other similar masks. The specialty of these face masks is that they come with tangled fibers to filter pathogens. They also fit very tightly and close to your mouth and nose.
This type of mask is suitable for everyone. But due to high demand, there is a shortage of respirator masks.
- Cloth Masks
According to CDC even cloth coverings or face masks are effective against coronavirus. They have even passed a video showing how to make cloth masks.
You can make this type of mask using different fabrics or clothing items such as t-shirts, scarves, and bandanas. Using different fabrics in combination is most effective.
When Should You Wear A Face Mask?
According to WHO, you should wear a face mask while taking care of a Covid-19 positive patient or when you are around people who have symptoms. Some of the main symptoms of Covid-19 are sneezing and coughing.
The CDC suggests everyone wear a face mask or covering when in public places where it is difficult to maintain social distance. This may include:
- Grocery stores
- Workplaces
- Healthcare settings
- Pharmacies
- Public transport
They also suggest people with existing medical issues and above the age of 60 to wear medical face masks when physical distancing is not possible.
No matter where you are going, you should always wear a face mask in public. This is important for the safety of others and yours as well.
